[Seoul –September 1, 2021] The 4th Upbit Developer Conference (hereinafter “UDC 2021”) a festival that unites blockchain developers across the globe kicks off today.
Dunamu Inc. (CEO Sirgoo Lee), operator of the global digital asset exchange Upbit, holds the UDC 2021, a two-day conference, from 10:30 AM KST on September 1st (Wed.) and September 2nd (Thu.), and it will be live streamed on official UDC YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/udc_official). UDC 2021 has drawn about 8,000 preregistrations, more than double last year, with the 18 global blockchain industry leaders and a wide range of sessions covering 6 blockchain themes that the world is paying attention to.
Under the theme of ‘Welcome to the Blockchain World’, the event examines the changes in our everyday lives permeated by blockchain and shares visions for the future of blockchain technology. As part of the most influential event in blockchain space, it consists of 6 themes: NFT (Non-Fungible Token), DeFi (Decentralized Finance), Smart Contract, CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency), Payment, and Enterprise Solutions.
On day 1, September 1, Chi-Hyung Song—Chairman of Dunamu—gives an opening welcome speech to introduce the meaning and the outline of UDC 2021 in the growth and evolution of the blockchain industry. A variety interesting discussion about NFT, which is gaining traction recently, will also take place. Jeffrey Zirlin, Co-founder of Sky Mavis, explains the “Play to Earn” trend through Ethereum-based NFT game Axie Infinity that has emerged as a new power for the Philippine economy and explores the utility and potential of NFTs as a means of value creation. Jungbong Lee, CEO of Seoul Auction Blue Co., Ltd., deals with cases of NFT introduced in the fashion and art fields, and explores the infinite possibility of NFT creating new values through synergy between creators and collectors. Wes Levitt, Head of Strategy for Theta Labs talks about how NFT can be innovative with the Theta, and Sebastien Borget, COO and Co-founder of The Sandbox describes the scalability of NFTs based on the metaverse world implemented in the Sandbox game.
There are sessions on Payment, Smart Contract and Enterprise Solutions as well. Marek Olszewski, CTO and Co-founder of Celo, looks into the status of payment technology developing into ‘MoFi’ combines mobile with DeFi. Arthur Breitman, Council member of Tezos Foundation delivers the growth and vision of Tezos Smart Contract based on an introduction to Granada, the 7th upgrade of Tezos protocol. Changho Jin, Principal of Kearney Korea provides a macro perspective on the progress and prospects of global CBDC research from developed countries (e.g., United States and the United Kingdom) to developing countries (e.g., Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean). Jay Park, CEO of Lamda 256, presents a future alternative to the enterprise solution industry with Reg-tech, which focuses on regulatory compliance and regulatory-related activities.
Cuy Sheffield, the Vice president and Head of Crypto at Visa the world’s largest payment technology company opens the second day of UDC 2021 on September 2, with a lecture on payment. He focuses on the five trends of the cross-border crypto economy that are different from the existing paper money economy and talks about Visa that is at the leading edge of payment industries by connecting the crypto ecosystem, financial institutions, and merchants.
Various discussions about smart contracts and the DeFi ecosystem will be also followed. Anatoly Yakovenko, CEO of Solana Labs will delve into Solana’s smart contract through a case study of the ‘Serum’ Decentralized Exchange (DEX). Ryan R. Fox, Developer Advocate of Algorand, and Muneeb Ali, Co-founder of Stacks will investigate the basic concepts and potential value of Smart Contract. Qi Zhou, CEO and Founder of QuarkChain will take an in-depth look at Concentrated Liquidity through the Uniswap one of the DeFi projects. Soon Hyeong Jeong, CEO of Onther Inc. will analyze layer 2 solutions that support Ethereum’s scalability in the DeFi system based on the Tokamak network. Leemon Baird, Chief Scientist and Co-founder of Hedera Hashgraph plans to provide a deep-dive into the distributed ledger technology (DLT) and presentations on DeFi by Kristy-Leigh Minehan, CTO of NEM will also be given.
Sirgoo Lee, CEO of Dunamu, and Tae-hoon Kim, a pop columnist and presenter of the conference, will take on the closing stage. They wrap up the two-day long journey by reviewing the major discussions and highlights of UDC 2021.
